A mixture of 2-amino-5-nitrobenzothiazole (1.52 g, 7.8 mmol), benzoyl chloride (1.36 mL, 11.7 mmol) and pyridine (15 mL) was heated to 60° C. for 24 h. The mixture was poured into water (250 mL), and the resulting precipitate was separated by filtration to yield N-(5-nitrobenzothiazol-2-yl)benzamide (1:83 g, 6.12 mmol, 78%) as a yellow solid.
