To as solution of 1-(2-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-5-piperidin-1-yl-1,5,6,7-tetrahydro-pyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridine-4-one (0.93 g, 2.70 mmol) in DMF (30 ml) was added NBS (0.50, 2.84 mmol) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at this temperature for one hour and then water was added. The mixture was extracted with ether (×3). The combined ether extracts were dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated to give 0.92 g (84%) of the title compound after flash chromatography (heptane:EtOAc gradient).
