Reaction Steps
Following the method of example 54d, oxidation of (E)-5,5-dimethyl-2-(4-methylsulfanyl-phenyl)-hex-2-enoic acid ethyl ester (680 mg, 2.34 mmol) with oxone® (1.86 g, 3.0 mmol) in methanol gives the title compound as a yellow oil (720 mg). MS (m/e): 325 (M+H).
