Procedure

Into a four-necked flask was charged 70.17 parts of tetrahydrothiophene and 750 parts of acetone, into this was dropped 150 parts of 1-bromopinacolone, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. The deposited crystal was filtrated and washed with 100 parts of tert-butyl methyl ether and dried to obtain 161.3 parts of 3,3-dimethyl-2-oxobutyl thiacyclopentanium bromide.
