To a solution of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-2-naphthol in 50 ml of DMF was added Na2CO3 (10 g) portionwise and this mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at room temperature. A solution of 3-fluoro-4-nitropyridine-N-oxide in 50 ml DMF was added dropwise and the reaction was allowed to proceed for four hours at room temperature. The mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water and dried (sat NaCl, anhy MgSO4).
