To 0.060 g (0.126 mmol) of 6 dissolved in 4 mL of 1:1 THF:ethanol was added 0.080 g of 10% palladium on carbon. The reaction vessel was capped with a rubber septum and charged with hydrogen via a balloon. After 1 h, the catalyst was removed via filtration and the filtrate concentrated to a cream colored solid. Purification by flash chromatography eluting with 90% hexanes/ethyl acetate gave 0.041 g (84%) of the title compound as a white solid. 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 1.49 (s, 3H), 1.54 (s, 9H), 2.04-2.11 (m, 2H), 2.32 (s, 3H), 4.63 (dd, J=4.1, 10.7 Hz, 1H), 6.66 (s, 1H), 7.12-7.26 (m, 5H), 7.31-7.44 (m, 5H). MS Calcd.: 387; Found: 388 (M+H).
