Procedure

1,1-Dimethylethyl 3-[[4-(3,4-dichlorophenoxy)-1-piperidinyl]methyl]-1-piperidinecarboxylate (1.63 g) was dissolved in dichloromethane (30 ml) and trifluoroacetic acid (10 ml) was added. The mixture was stirred for 3 h, then concentrated. The residue was neutralized with sodium hydroxide solution (2M) and extracted with ethyl acetate thrice. The extracts were dried, filtered and evaporated to give the title compound (1.06 g).
