Procedure

A solution of (1-benzyl-piperidin-4-yl)-(2-fluoro-4-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-methanone (2.0 g, 5.46 mmol), methylhydrazine (327 mg, 7.10 mmol), and n-butanol (22 mL) was heated at 120° C. in a seal vessel for 18 hours. The reaction was cooled to room temperature and basified with NaHCO3 and extracted with EtOAc (3×50 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine (50 mL), dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and evaporated. The product was chromatographed on silica, eluting with 1:1 ethyl acetate/heptane, to afford 1.68 g (82%) of the desired product as an oil.
