Procedure
29.4 g of 1,2,3,9-tetrahydro-9-methyl-3-[(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]-4H- carbazol-4-one obtained in Example 9 was suspended in 300 ml of ethanol and 14 ml of water, which was then cooled at −10° C. 12.5 g of conc. HCl was slowly added to the reaction mixture, which was then stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The resulting solid was filtered and washed with cold ethanol, and then dried in vacuous at 35° C. to give 32.6 g of title compound (yield 90%).
