Procedure
Compound 102 was dissolved in 5 mL of methanol and cooled to 0° C. A solution of freshly prepared NaOMe in methanol was added, and the solution was warmed to room temperature and stirred overnight. TLC (70:30 hexanes/ethyl acetate) showed no starting material. The reaction was acidified with Dowex resin, filtered, and concentrated to a white solid. The compound 103 was recrystallized from ethyl acetate/hexanes.
