4-[4-Chloro-5-(4-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-1H-imidazol-2-yl]-3,6-dihydro-2H-pyridine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester from step (a) above (540 mg, 1.26 mmol) reacted with TFA under the conditions of Example 22(c) to give the title compound as a light-brown oil, which was used directly in the next step without additional purification. MS (ESI, positive ion) m/z: 328 (M+1).
