Procedure
N-(2,6-Dichlorophenyl)-N′-(1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]dec-6-yl)guanidine (426 mg) was mixed with concentrated HCl (5 ml) and stirred at room temperature for 5 minutes. The resulting precipitate was filtered off and washed with concentrated hydrochloric acid. On dilution of the filtrate with water, a further precipitate separated out and was likewise filtered off. The combined precipitates afforded 311 mg of the desired compound.
