A mixture of furopyrrole 7 (300 mg, 0.79 mmol), aniline (146 mg, 1.57 mmol), DCC (323 mg, 1.57 mmol), trifluoroacetic acid (2-3 drops) and DCM was stirred at room temperature for 144 hours. The solvent was removed, and washing with methanol gave the pyrrolopyrrole 8 as a red solid (173 mg, 55%), m.p. 255-256° C. δH (CDCl3) 7.88-7.83 (2H, m, Ar—H), 7.49-7.43 (5H, m, Ar—H), 7.40-7.26 (5H, m, Ar—H), 7.12-7.07 (2H, m, Ar—H) and 3.35 (3H, s, NCH3)
