A mixture of 8-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-methyl-1,4-dihydro-9H-pyrazolo[4,3-b]quinolin-9-one (EXAMPLE 38, step 3, 41 mg, 0.14 mmol) in a mixture of 48% hydrobromic acid (1 ml) and acetic acid (1 ml) was refluxed for 7 h. After cooling to room temperature, water was added to the mixture. The formed solid was collected by filtration to give 37 mg (94%) of the title compound as a solid.
