4-{3-[9-[(1R,2S,3R,4S)-2,3-Dihydroxy-4-(2-hydroxy-acetylamino)-cyclopentyl]-6-((S)-1-hydroxymethyl-2-phenyl-ethylamino)-9H-purin-2-yl]-prop-2-ynyl}-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (Intermediate XB) is dissolved in 1.25 M HCl in MeOH. After stirring at RT for 3 days, the solvent is removed in vacuo to yield the title compound. This is used in the next step without further purification.
