20.4 gm (60 millimols) of methyl 2,5-dihydro-4-hydroxy-8-methoxy-5-methyl-1,2-thiazino[5,6-b]indole-3-carboxylate 1,1-dioxide were reacted analogous to Example 18 (f) wtih a sodium hydroxide solution and methyl iodide in methanol to yield 17.9 gm (85% of theory) of methyl 2,5-dihydro-2,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-8-methoxy-1,2-thiazino[5,6-b]indole-3-carboxylate 1,1-dioxide; M.p.: 200°-201° C.
