Procedure

3.0 gm (9.1 millimols) of methyl 2,5-dihydro-2,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-1,2-thiazino-[5,6-b]indole-3-carboxylate-1,1-dioxide and 0.98 gm (10 millimols) of 2-amino-4-methyloxazole were refluxed for 4 hours in 250 ml of xylene. Upon cooling, the raw product crystallized out. Recrystallization from ethanol yielded 0.7 gm (20% of theory) of 2,5-dihydro-2,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-N-(4-methyl-2-oxazolyl)-1,2-thiazino[5,6-b]-indole-3-carboxamide-1,1-dioxide; M.p.: 128° C.
