At 0° C., 1.3 g of phosphorus pentachloride is added in incremental portions to a mixture of 1.9 g of 3-[4-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-pyrazolyl]propionic acid in 60 ml of diethyl ether; the mixture is agitated for 3 hours, then concentrated, and the residue recrystallized from petroleum ether, thus obtaining 1.85 g of 3-[4-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-pyrazolyl]propionic acid chloride, mp 111° C.
