Procedure

170 g of 4-chloro-3-nitro-N-hexadecylbenzenesulfonamide was dissolved in 640 ml of acetone, then 79 g of potassium carbonate, 6 ml of polyethylene glycol 400 and 71 g of dimethyl sulfate were added and the reaction mixture was heated for 5 hours under reflux. 240 ml of acetone was added thereto, then 870 ml of water was added dropwise at 40° C., and when the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, crystals precipitated out. The crystals were filtered, washed with water and then with methanol and dried.
