Procedure
4-(Hydroxymethyl)cyclohexanone (1.22 g) in tetrahydrofuran (20 mL) was treated with 1-Methylmagnesium bromide in tetrahydrofuran (28.6 mL) at 0° C. The reaction was warmed to room temperature over 4 hours and quenched with methanol (2 mL) and water (2 mL). The resulting mixture was concentrated and the residue was suspended in ethyl acetate. The precipitates were filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated and purified by flash chromatography, eluted with 0-100% ethyl acetate in hexane to provide the title compound.
