[2-Chloro-4-(3-{2-[(E)-3,5-diamino-6-chloro-pyrazine-2-carbonylimino]-1,3,8-triaza-spiro[4.5]dec-8-yl}-3-oxo-propyl)-phenoxy]-acetic acid tert-butyl ester (step 1) (5.3 g, 8.53 mmol) was suspended in 1,4-dioxane (25 ml) and treated with 4N HCl in dioxane (30 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred at RT for 24 h and filtered. The solid was washed with iso-hexane (300 ml) to afford the title compound as a hydrochloride salt;
