Procedure

To a stirred solution of 2-[2-(4-Chloro-phenyl)-5-ethyl-thiazol-4-yl]-3-methoxy-5-[1-(tetrahydro-pyran-4-yl)-meth-(E)-ylidene]-cyclopent-2-enone (85 mg, 0.19 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (3 ml) was added 12M hydrochloric acid (32 μl, 0.38 mmol) and the reaction heated to 60° C. for 12 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue purified by mass-directed preparative HPLC to give 2-[2-(4-Chloro-phenyl)-5-ethyl-thiazol-4-yl]-4-[1-(tetrahydro-pyran-4-yl)-meth-(E)-ylidene]-cyclopentane-1,3-dione (4 mg).
