To a suspension of ethyl 3-(2-(3-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)nicotinamido)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoate (4500 mg, 9.21 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) (500 ml) lithium hydroxide (LiOH) (441 mg, 18.42 mmol) in water (100 ml) was added, and the mixture stirred for 2 h at room temperature. After completion of the reaction (tlc: CH2Cl2+10% (v/v) methanol) the mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and after addition of water (300 ml) acidified using 2 n HCl. The precipitate formed was filtered off and dried to give 4.13 g of a white amorphous solid.
