To a solution of 5,7-dimethyl-1-tosyl-1H-indole-4-carbaldehyde (Example 46-D) (2 g, 6.11 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was added NBS (2.39 g, 13.44 mmol), and then the mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 18.5 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature. The mixture was diluted with H2O, the layers were separated and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc. The organic phase was washed with H2O and brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The resulting residue was purified by silica gel flash column chromatography to give the title compound. MS (ESI+) m/z 406.0, 408.0 (M+H).
