Procedure
The ZrO2 materials functionalized with sulfonic acid and phenolsulfonic acid groups were used as the solid acid catalysts in the liquid phase esterifications of palmitic acid (PA) with MeOH. The reactions were carried out at the reflux temperature of MeOH. Methyl palmitate was obtained as the only product in the present reaction condition based on the GC and GC-MS analyses. The esterification of palmitic acid (PA) with MeOH was carried out at 60° C. in order to totally dissolve PA in the reaction mixture.
