Reaction Steps

A mixture of 5-bromo-4-vinyl-2-benzofuran-1(3H)-one (2.0 g, 8.37 mmol) and Pd/C (400 mg) in 50 mL of MeOH was stirred at rt under H2 (1 atm) overnight, and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated. The resulting material was purified by column chromatography to give 5-bromo-4-ethyl-2-benzofuran-1(3H)-one.
