Procedure
Into a 8-mL round-bottom flask purged and maintained with an inert atmosphere of nitrogen, was placed ethylene glycol dimethyl ether (2 mL), water (1 mL), ethyl 3-(4-ethylphenyl)-5-iodo-1,2-thiazole-4-carboxylate (50 mg, 0.13 mmol, 1.00 equiv), phenylboronic acid (18.9 mg, 0.16 mmol, 1.20 equiv), Pd(dppf)Cl2 (5.2 mg, 0.01 mmol, 0.06 equiv), sodium carbonate (41 mg, 0.39 mmol, 3.00 equiv). The resulting solution was stirred for 2 h at 90° C. The resulting mixture was concentrated under vacuum. The residue was applied onto a silica gel column and eluted with ethyl acetate/petroleum ether (1:20). The collected fractions were combined and concentrated under vacuum. This resulted in 56 mg of ethyl 3-(4-ethylphenyl)-5-phenyl-1,2-thiazole-4-carboxylate as yellow oil. Mass spectrum (ESI, m/z): Calcd. for C20H19NO2S, 338.1 (M+H). found 338.1.
