Potassium carbonate (1.38 g) was added to a stirred solution of methyl 3-(furan-3-yl)-2-methoxy-6-{[S-phenyl-N-(trifluoroacetyl)sulphonimidoyl]methyl)benzoate (Intermediate 215) in methanol (20 ml) and the resultant mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The mixture was evaporated to dryness and ethyl acetate and water were added to the residue. The organic layer was separated, dried (Na2SO4) and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness and the residue was purified by chromatography on silica, eluting with a mixture of ethyl acetate and cyclohexane with a gradient of 20-70%. The isolated product was triturated with diethyl ether and the solid was collected by filtration to give 6-(furan-3-yl)-5-methoxy-2-oxo-2-phenyl-1H-2-λ*6*-benzo[d][1,2]thiazin-4-one (0.23 g) as a white solid.
