Procedure
To a solution of n-butyllithium (2.5 M in hexanes, 1.3 mL, 3.28 mmol) in THF (5 mL) at 0° C. was slowly added triethyl-2-fluoro-2-phosphonoacetate (700 mg, 2.89 mmol). The solution was stirred for 10 min at −40° C. The mixture was cooled to −78° C., and a solution of 1-(4-ethyl-7-methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromen-6-yl)-ethanone (Compound 53, 222 mg, 0.97 mmol) in THF (5 mL) was added by cannula. After stirring at 0° C. for 4 h, the reaction mixture was quenched with water. The product was extracted with ethyl acetate and the combined extracts were washed with water and brine, and dried over Na2SO4. The solution was filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, 10% ethyl acetate in hexane) to produce the title compound as a colorless oil.
