Procedure

To a solution of the amide of Example 44 (80 mg, 0.16 mmol) in toluene (10 ml) under nitrogen was added thionyl chloride (23 μL, 0.32 mmol) and a catalytic amount of dimethylformamide. After refluxing for 16 h, the reaction was cooled to ambient temperature, diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to give a residue (78 mg) which was purified using preparative thin layer chromatography eluting with ethyl acetate:hexane 1:2 to give the desired product (42 mg). 1H NMR (CDCl3) 7.39-7.31 (4H, m), 7.08-7.04 (2H, m), 6.88-6.84 (1H, m), 6.24 (1H, d, J=6.1 Hz), 4.12 (2H, s), 3.09-3.07 (1H, m), 2.62-2.46 (4H, m), 2.11-2.04 (2H, m), 1.65-1.57 (2H, m). M/z(ES−)=487/489
