460 mg (1.72 mmol) of 2-bromomethyl-5-nitroquinoline and 0.54 ml (6.2 mmol) of morpholine are dissolved in 150 ml of toluene. After 1.07 g (7.74 mmol) of potassium carbonate is added, the reaction mixture is allowed to reflux for 2 hours. Potassium carbonate is filtered off, and the filtrate is concentrated by evaporation. After purification on silica gel with hexane-ethyl acetate (0-100%), 190 mg (40% of theory) of the product is obtained.
