A mixture of (S)-{1-[3-(pyrimidin-5-yloxy)-phenyl]-ethyl}-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (0.81 g, 2.6 mmol), dioxane (20 mL) and HCl (2.6 mL, 4N) was stirred at 50° C. for 5 h and concentrated in vacuo. CH2Cl2 (50 mL) was added and the reaction mixture was basified with NaOH (5N) followed by extraction with CH2Cl2 (2×50 mL). The organic layer was washed with brine (50 mL), dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated to give the title compound (0.52 g, 95% yield).
