To a degassed mixture of 3,5-difluoro-2,4,6-tribromopyridine (4.26 g, 12.1 mmol), 2-(2-fluoro-5-nitrophenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-[1,3,2]dioxaborolane (2.80 g, 10.4 mmol), aqueous sodium carbonate (10 ml of a 2M solution) and tetrahydrofuran (40 ml) was added tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (0.67 g). The mixture was then stirred at 55° C. for 48 h under an atmosphere of nitrogen. The reaction mixture was then partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated and evaporated and the residue chromatographed on silica gel eluting with isohexane on a gradient of dichloromethane (20-40%) to afford 2,4-dibromo-3,5-difluoro-6-(2-fluoro-5-nitrophenyl)pyridine as a solid (1.21 g): δH (400 MHz, CDCl3) 7.37 (1H, t, J 9), 8.38 (1H, m), 8.55 (1H, dd, J 6 and 3).
