To a solution of 2,2-bis-(2,4-difluoro-phenyl)-6-fluoro-benzo[1,3]dioxole-5 sulfinic acid (3.2 g, 7 mmol) in chloroform (25 mL) was added N-chlorosuccinimide (1.0 g, 7 mmol, 1.0 eq.) at 20° C. After 40 min, the reaction mixture was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated. The residue was suspended in dichloromethane, dried over sodium sulfate and the solvent was removed in vacuo, affording the title product as a light yellow gum.
