Procedure

Sodium azide (675 mg) was added to a solution of 1-(N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-N-methylglycyl)-cis-4-methanesulfonyloxy-L-proline methyl ester (B, 0.82 g) in N,N-dimethylformamide (10 mL)-water (1 mL). After stirring at 70° C. for 3 hr, the solvents were removed in vacuo, and the residue was diluted with chloroform. The organic layer was washed with water and brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and evaporated in vacuo to afford the title compound (0.75 g) as a pale yellow oil.
