TFA (1.0 mL) was added to a solution of 1-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-4-(3-oxo-3-phenylpropyl)piperidine (50 mg, 0.16 mmol, from Step C) in CH2Cl2 (1.0 mL) at rt. After stirring for 3 h, the solution was concentrated at reduced pressure. Toluene was added and evaporated at reduced pressure, and this was repeated with two additional portions of toluene. Drying under vacuum yielded the title compound as colorless crystals.
