Procedure

Into 10 ml of THF was dissolved 0.44 g of the obtained methyl 2-[2-chloro-4-fluoro-5-{3-methyl-2,6-dioxo-4-(tri-fluoromethyl)-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyrimidin-1-yl}phenoxy]-4-bromobutanoate and 0.10 g of potassium t-butoxide was added to the solution at −15° C. Cooling bath was removed and the solution was stirred until the solution became room temperature taking 2 hours. The reaction solution was poured into aqueous diluted hydrochloric acid and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to silica gel chromatography (eluent:hexane/ethyl acetate=4/1) to give 0.26 g of methyl 1-[2-chloro-4-fluoro-5-{3-methyl-2,6-dioxo-4-(trifluoro-methyl)-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyrimidin-1-yl}phenoxy]cyclo-propanecarboxylate (Compound 1-2).
