Procedure
Formic acid (1.5 ml) was added to a mixture of the title compound of example 23 (750 mg, 1.3 mmol) and 10% palladium on charcoal (750 mg) in ethyl acetate (15 ml), and the reaction stirred under a nitrogen atmosphere at room temperature for 24 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered through Arbocel, the filter pad washed with water (30 ml) and ethyl acetate (30 ml), and the filtrate basified using 2N sodium hydroxide solution. The layers were separated, the aqueous extracted with dichloromethane (3×100 ml), and the combined organic solutions dried (MgSO4) and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was triturated with ether, to afford the title compound as a white solid, (375 mg).
