A solution of tert-butyl 1′-benzyl-4-(1-hydroxyethyl)spiro[indoline-3,4′-piperidine]-1-carboxylate (0.045 g, 0.11 mmol) in DCM (2 mL) was treated with 4N HCl in dioxane (0.5 mL). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield 1-(1′-benzylspiro[indoline-3,4′-piperidine]-4-yl)ethanol dihydrochloride (0.047 g, 100%), which was used without further purification.
