To 2-(4-Fluoro-phenyl)-5-iodo-6-methanesulfonylamino-furo[2,3-b]pyridine-3-carboxylic acid methylamide (9 mg, 0.018 mmol) and potassium carbonate (25.4 mg, 0.184 mmol) in acetone (0.1 ml) is added iodomethane (0.115 ml, 1.840 mmol). After heating at 60° C. for 1 day, the reaction mixture is filtered and concentrated to dryness to afford 2-(4-Fluoro-phenyl)-5-iodo-6-(methanesulfonyl-methyl-amino)-furo[2,3-b]pyridine-3-carboxylic acid methylamide (9.3 mg, 0.018 mmol, 100% yield). MS (ESI) m/z 503.9 (M+1). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3CN) δ ppm 8.60 (s, 1H), 7.95 (m, 2H), 7.23-7.18 (m, 2H), 6.79 (br s, 1H), 3.14 (s, 3H), 2.80-2.79 (d, 3H).
