Reaction Steps
The reagents (1 eq. of 2-amino-N-[2-(4-fluorophenoxy)ethyl]malonamide 3 per 5 eq. of ethyl orthoformate) are placed in a 100 ml three-necked flask equipped with a condenser and a calcium chloride (CaCl2) guard tube, in refluxing absolute ethanol with a catalytic amount of para-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA), for 2 hours 30 minutes.
