Procedure
A solution of commercially available 4-bromo-1-methyl-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzene (1 eq.), NBS (1.1 eq.) and a catalytic amount of benzoyl peroxide in CCl4 (0.21M) was stirred at room temperature for 1 h under a 150 W spot lamp. The mixture was concentrated, purification by column chromatography on silica gel, eluting with Hex, afforded the desired material as an oil.
