Reaction Steps

Concentrated HCl (36%, 73.5 ml) was added to [9-(ethoxy carbonyl)-9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]-non-3-yl]-acetic acid (4.9 g, 19.2 m mol) under stirring at room temperature. The reaction mixture was heated at 100° C. for 8 hours and progress of reaction was monitored by mass spectroscopy. After the completion of reaction, the reaction mixture was evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure and traces of water was removed by evaporating with dichloromethane (3×50 ml) the crude product was dried under high vacuum to yield the title compound (4.01 g, 95%) and subjected to further reaction without purification
