A mixture of 3-(2,6-dimethyl-phenyl)-6-methoxy-pyridazine (1.6 g, 7.47 mmol) in hydriodic acid (57% in water, 10 mL) is heated at 80° C. for 2.5 h. The cooled mixture is diluted with water, neutralized to pH 7 with ammonium hydroxide and extracted with EtOAc. The extract is washed with water, dried and concentrated to yield 6-(2,6-dimethyl-phenyl)-pyridazin-3-ol as a solid.
