Procedure

1-p-Nitrophenyl-4-methyl-4-(2-methyl-1,3-dioxoisoindolin-4-yl)semicarbazide (2.6 g) was dissolved in 300 ml tetrahydrofuran and a catalytic amount (about 200 mg) of 10% palladium on carbon was added. The mixture was hydrogenated on a Parr hydrogenation apparatus overnight at 40 psi hydrogen pressure. The mixture was filtered and the solvent was evaporated to give 2.0 g (87% yield).

Workup

  1. filtrationThe mixture was filtered
  2. customthe solvent was evaporated
  3. customto give 2.0 g (87% yield)
