Procedure

o-cresol, methanol and water in a ratio of 1:2.5:2.5 were reacted in the same way as in Example 1. The catalyst contained iron oxide, titanium oxide, chromium oxide and calcium oxide in a molar ratio of 100:4,5:2:0,5. After working up, 2,6-xylenol was obtained with a selectivity of 99.1%.
