o-cresol, methanol and water in a ratio of 1:2.5:2.5 were reacted in the same way as described in Example 1. The catalyst contained iron oxide, germanium oxide, chromium oxide and barium oxide in a ratio of 100:2:10:1. After working up, 2,6-xylenol was obtained with a selectivity of 99.2%.
