To a solution of 9-Carboethoxy-2-(2-fluorophenyl)-7,8,9,10-tetrahydro-imidazo[1,2-c]-quinazolin-5(6H)-one (110 mg) in 15 mL of anhydrous tetrahydrofuran was added 2 mL of 1.8M phenylithium. The reaction was allowed to stand for 15 minutes and then quenched with 1 mL of 10% acetic acid. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the crude reaction mixture triterated with water. The solid was then collected and dried to yield 9-(Diphenylhydroxymethyl)-2-(2-fluorophenyl)-7,8,9,10-tetrahydro-imidazo [1,2-c]-quinazolin-5(6H)-one (Compound 46), m.p. 315°-318° C.
