Procedure

To a solution of N-(3-(3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-2(1H)-yl)-2-hydroxypropyl)-2-methyl-3-nitrobenzamide (1.6 g, 4.3 mmol) in EtOH (15 mL) and H2O (15 mL) was added Fe powder (1.45 g, 25.8 mmol) and NH4Cl (1.38 g, 25.8 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 4 h. The reaction solution was filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated to remove EtOH. The residue was diluted with water and extracted with DCM. The organic layer was concentrated to give the desired product (1.4 g, Yield 95.9%). The crude product was used in next step without further purification. LCMS (m/z): 340.1 (M+H).
