Procedure
NaHCO3 (717 mg) was added to a mixture of 6-bromo-1-methyl-2-(trichloromethyl)-1H-benzimidazole (400 mg), N,0-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrochloride (357 mg), NaHCO3 (512 mg), CH3CN (6 ml) and water (2 ml) at room temperature. The mixture was stirred at 60° C. overnight. The mixture was quenched with brine and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was separated, washed with brine, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/EtOAc) to give the title compound (134 mg) as an orange gum.
